his research examines pragmatism as one of the most prominent modern and contemporary philosophical movements that emphasizes the practical and experimental dimensions of thought and knowledge. Pragmatism emerged within the context of American philosophy and was associated with Charles Sanders Peirce, then developed by William James, who reformulated it and presented it as a theory of truth and meaning. Later, John Dewey continued to develop pragmatism and applied its principles to the fields of experience, knowledge, and human life.

The study aims to explore the concept of pragmatism, its main principles and characteristics, and to clarify its position regarding knowledge and truth. It focuses particularly on William James’s pragmatic philosophy by analyzing his concept of truth and the value of ideas through their practical consequences and their applicability in reality. The research also discusses John Dewey’s contribution to the development of the pragmatic movement, especially his emphasis on experience, the practical method, and the instrumental nature of thought.

The research concludes that pragmatism does not view ideas and knowledge as abstract forms of understanding separated from reality; rather, it connects their value to the practical results they achieve and their ability to address the problems of life and human experience.
